5 11 2002-04-08 $Date$ NormanWalsh 20022003Norman Walsh Capri, Italy Today we travelled the short distance from Sorrento to Capri (CAH-pri, not ca-PRI) by high-speed ferry. Capri is a lush, gorgeous island of about forty square miles harboring four villages: Marina Grande, Marina Piccola, Capri, and Anacapri. After a Funicular (cable car/trolly) ride from Marina Grande to Capri, we strolled briefly through the medieval section of Capri. Passing through the valley in the center of the island, we arrived at a spectacular vista overlooking Marina Piccolo. Next we took a shuttle bus ride along a sheer cliff (past the original Greek steps) up to Anacapri for lunch. Following lunch, we were delighted to learn that the famous Blue Grotto was open (it had earlier been closed by either tide or rough seas). Our tour ended with a trip through this spectacular natural wonder and a return trip on the ferry.
