<para xml:id="p1">On
<link xlink:href="http://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/docbook/200403/msg00032.html">17
Mar 2004</link>, the
<link xlink:href="http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/tc_home.php?wg_abbrev=docbook">DocBook
Technical Committee</link> (TC)
voted to release DocBook V4.3
as a Committee Draft. Yesterday, I finally found the cycles to publish the
<link xlink:href="http://docbook.org/specs/cd-docbook-docbook-4.3.html">the
specification</link> and the schemas (normatively in
<link xlink:href="http://docbook.org/xml/4.3/">XML</link> and
<link xlink:href="http://docbook.org/sgml/4.3/">SGML</link>; informally in
<link xlink:href="http://docbook.org/rng/4.3/">RELAX NG</link> and
<link xlink:href="http://docbook.org/xsd/4.3/">W3C XML Schema</link>).</para>

<para xml:id="p2">I also updated the 
<link xlink:href="http://docbook.org/xml/ebnf/1.2b1/">EBNF</link>,
<link xlink:href="http://docbook.org/xml/htmlforms/1.2b1/">HTML Forms</link>,
<link xlink:href="http://docbook.org/xml/mathml/1.1b1/">MathML</link>, and
<link xlink:href="http://docbook.org/xml/svg/1.1b1/">SVG</link> modules
to be extensions of DocBook V4.3. Those are all “beta” modules until such
time as the TC approves them.</para>

<para xml:id="p3">Finally, while I was at it, I fixed a bug in 
<link xlink:href="http://docbook.org/xml/simple/1.1b3/">Simplified DocBook</link>.
The V1.1b2 release ostensibly allowed <tag>anchor</tag> elements, but in
practice it didn’t allow them in the right places.</para>

<para xml:id="p4">I’m hoping that the TC’s next DocBook release will be V5.0b1 sometime
this year. Prognostication is not my strong suit (are there any engineers that
are good at it?), but I think it’d be both nice and realistic to have some
beta version of 5.0 ready in time for
<link xlink:href="http://www.xmlconference.org/xmlusa/2004/">XML 2004</link>.</para>
