<para xml:id="p1">A mid-winter visit to the
<link xlink:href="http://www.smith.edu/garden/home.html">Botanic
Garden at Smith College</link> (specifically to the Lyman Conservatory)
provides a much needed splash of color in the otherwise
<link xlink:href="/2005/02/11/photofailures">black and white
landscape</link> of a New England winter.</para>

<para xml:id="p2">This particular trip to the conservatory was inspired
by <personname>
      <firstname>Paul</firstname>
<surname role="suppress">Grosso</surname>
    </personname> and
<personname>
      <firstname>Paula</firstname>
<surname role="suppress">Angerstein</surname>
    </personname>’s weekend
visit. It answers the question, where do you take visitors from Texas
<emphasis>outdoors</emphasis> in <emphasis>New England</emphasis> in
<emphasis>February</emphasis> if you want to keep them as your
friends?!</para>

<para xml:id="p3">The conservatory is in the process of setting up for
the bulb show. I anticipate many more colorful flower photographs sometime
in mid-March.</para>
