<para xml:id="p1">The annual U.S. XML conference<footnote>
<para xml:id="p2">Not to be confused with its somewhat geekier Canadian cousin,
<link xlink:href="http://www.extrememarkup.com/">Extreme Markup Languages</link>,
or its European sibling,

will,
as you must surely know by now but in case you don't, be held in
Atlanta, GA this year. It runs from
<link xlink:href="http://upcoming.org/event/14795/">14-18 November</link>,
barely a month away,
so now's the time to be making those hotel and travel arrangements.</para>

<para xml:id="p3">This year, I managed to get a both a technical paper,
<link xlink:href="http://2005.xmlconference.org/program/thursday#9">
      <citetitle>Unit
Testing in XSLT 2.0</citetitle>

From Markup to Publication</citetitle>

up for, nudge, nudge), accepted. My own meager
contributions aside, there's a lot of cool stuff on the program. Enough to
<link xlink:href="/2005/itinerary/11-14-xml">fill my week</link>, certainly.
</para>

<para xml:id="p4">Last year, I organized a dinner for DocBook fans.
I'm game again this year, anyone interested? Send me some mail with
your schedule constraints, or post them in a comment if you prefer,
and I'll try to pick the best night.</para>

<para xml:id="p5">And last, but not least, Sun will have a booth in
the exhibit hall this year. That means I'll be doing a booth bunny
impression part of the time. I'll have the usual kit with me: JAXP,
the DocBook grammars, XSLT stylesheets of various sorts, XML Catalog
tools, odd bits of RDF, etc. But if there's some sort of demo you'd
really like to see, advance warning means you'll spend less time
watching me fumble around figuring out how to string the bits
together.</para>

<para xml:id="p6">Whether you have pointy brackets in your blood
stream, or just deep in the guts of the systems you use (and odds are,
these days, you do), XML 2005 is a must-attend event. Here's hoping to
see you there!</para>
