Based on your title and teaser, I thought you were going to mention another pool, which I was invited to join after someone saw some pictures I had taken of a diorama my younger daughter did for school: http://www.flickr.com/groups/smallworlds/

That was just a typo (or a cut-and-pasto, anyway), Matej. Sorry about that. Fixed now.

The small worldness of the WWW is a really interesting property. It has been analysed mathematically together with other statistical properties that show that the WWW is a Complex System, as many living systems like metabolic networks, acquaintance networks, food webs, neural networks,...

We have also performed this analysis on part of the Semantic Web and it has shown that it is also a Complex System. Consequently, it shows small world behaviour.

Moreover, another important characteristic of Complex Systems is that they are scale free, i.e. fractal. Therefore, as they show the same behaviour at different scales, it can be said that the whole Semantic Web is a Complex System

Finally, we can even say that the Semantic Web behaves like a living system... more details at the Living Semantic Web project web page
