That's awful. I've always found hotels willing to just charge my credit card and check me out in absentia, but YMMV.

Yes, me too. And that's what I expected. I just wanted a copy of the bill so that I could submit an expense report without waiting for the hotel to mail me the final statement. The offer to check me out took me completely by surprise.

I've found that at the places that slide a copy of your bill under the door, they usually do it around midnight the night before your departure.
