<para xml:id="p1">I thought it was really great when we got <wikipedia page="Java_%28Sun%29">Java</wikipedia> packaged up and distributed
through the <wikipedia>Debian</wikipedia> packaging system
(used by Debian, <wikipedia page="Ubuntu_%28Linux_distribution%29">Ubuntu</wikipedia>,
and a raft of related distributions).</para>

<para xml:id="p2">As a Java developer working for
<wikipedia page="Sun_Microsystems">Sun</wikipedia>, I
have lots of reasons to install Java myself. But there are lots of
technologies for which I don't have obvious daily need, and for those,
I really appreciate the ability to just <userinput>apt-get
install</userinput> them. Java must be one of those technologies for
lots of other people.</para>

<para xml:id="p3">For an encore,
<link xlink:href="http://blogs.sun.com/theaquarium/entry/glassfish_netbeans_and_more_in">I
see</link> that we've arranged to get
both
<wikipedia page="Glassfish_Application_Server">Glassfish</wikipedia>,
our open source, production quality, enterprise application server, and
<wikipedia>NetBeans</wikipedia>, our open source
IDE platform, into
“<link xlink:href="http://norman.walsh.name/2007/04/01/feisty">Feisty Fawn</link>”,
the latest
<link xlink:href="http://www.ubuntu.com/">Ubuntu</link> distribution.</para>

<para xml:id="p4">NetBeans has become my Java development environment of choice,
nudging aside even (brace yourselves)
<wikipedia>Emacs</wikipedia> so I'm really happy to see
it in Ubuntu. I'm happy to see Glassfish too because I keep meaning to
spend some time with it and that just got even easier.</para>
