<para xml:id="p1">At today's DocBook Technical Committee meeting, we agreed
to publish DocBook V5.0 as a Commitee Draft. The candidate review period is
over, we declare victory!</para>

<para xml:id="p2">From a <link xlink:href="http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/process.php#s3.1">process perspective</link>,
we'll need to go through a formal public review to get to “Committee
Specification”, and a few more hurdles to get to “OASIS Standard”, but I
think the technical work is done. (To the extent that work on a successful
engineering project is ever “done”; there are certainly still requests for
enhancements to be considered…but not for V5.0.)</para>

<para xml:id="p3">We agreed to publish
<link xlink:href="/2005/10/28/docbook50b1">the first beta release</link>
almost exactly two years ago (planning and experimentation go back
even further). I'd like to thank everyone again for all their hard
work.</para>

<para xml:id="p4">And congratulations!</para>
