<para xml:id="p1">The
<link xlink:href="http://www.w3.org/XML/Processing/">XProc WG</link>
took
<citetitle xlink:href="http://www.w3.org/TR/xproc/">XProc: An XML Pipeline
Langauge</citetitle> to 
<link xlink:href="http://www.w3.org/2005/10/Process-20051014/tr.html#cfi">CR</link>
back <link xlink:href="/2008/11/26/XProcCandidateRecommendation">in
November</link>.
Today, the WG reached consensus on
<link xlink:href="http://www.w3.org/XML/XProc/2008/11/cr-comments/">the
last five issues</link>! That's a significant milestone. I'm pleased to say
that we got a lot of interesting CR comments and I think the
<wikipedia page="XML_pipeline">XProc</wikipedia> specification is better
for having addressed them.

<para xml:id="p2">The obvious question is, are we done? Unfortunately, the answer to
that question is “not quite”. Principally, what stops us from requesting a
transition to 
<link xlink:href="http://www.w3.org/2005/10/Process-20051014/tr.html#cfr">PR</link>
tomorrow is the state of the test suite. While we've amassed a
<link xlink:href="http://tests.xproc.org/testsuite/">fair number of tests</link>,
our 
<link xlink:href="http://tests.xproc.org/testsuite/coverage.html">coverage</link>
isn't yet within shouting distance of complete. I am happy to report that we have
<link xlink:href="http://tests.xproc.org/results">several implementations</link>
under active development and two of them are
performing very well against the current test suite.</para>

<para xml:id="p3">So here's the plan:</para>

<para xml:id="p4">As soon as possible, meaning very shortly after the
<link xlink:href="http://www.marklogic.com/UserConference2009/">Mark Logic
User Conference</link> (Y'all are coming, right?), we'll publish a new
CR Working Draft. We're not starting a new CR period, just publishing a draft
that reflects the WG's disposition of the comments received so far<footnote>
<para xml:id="p5">The comment period ended on 1 Feb 2009, but there's nothing we can do
to prevent you from sending in more comments; nor would I wish to suggest
that they're unwelcome. Painful though it is to be delayed by difficult questions
at the eleventh hour, it's worse to get them at 12:01a.</para>

In a perfect world, this would become the PR draft with no changes except to
the status section.
