Developers, start your engines!

I'm disappointed that I won't be able to get to this year's WWW conference[1], and not just because I'm on the programme (sic) committee for the Identity, Reference, and the Web workshop.

This year, the traditional “developer's day” has been extended into an entire track. That should be great. Developer's day was always one of the conference highlights.

If you've got cool stuff, WWW is a great venue to show it off. I even recall some talk of a discount for “unfunded” developers, though I can't find a clear pointer to such an offer at the moment (one of the disadvantages of a whole track is that you have to attend the whole conference, with it's concomitant registration fee).

Attendees, please tell us all the cool things we missed!

I think one of the messages that I'd like to get across is that this is an opportunity for developers to shape the developer oriented content of the conference by making submissions for the developer track. The deadline is looming, 19th March, but don't be inhibited about late submissions - we expect to be a little bit flexible.

The dev-track program at http://www2006.org/developers/has now been updated to reflect the submissions that been accepted. We've got 3 sessions worth of Next-Wave (Web 2.0, AJAX, JSON, mashups, microformats...), 2 sessions of Semantic Web and Ontologies and 1 each on Mobile, XML and Security along with 3 tutorials: Current Best Practices in Web Development and Design; Practical Microformats; and XForms.
