DocBook V4.3

Volume 7, Issue 53; 01 Apr 2004; last modified 08 Oct 2010

The DocBook Technical Committee published DocBook V4.3 as a Committee Draft. No fooling.

On 17 Mar 2004, the DocBook Technical Committee (TC) voted to release DocBook V4.3 as a Committee Draft. Yesterday, I finally found the cycles to publish the the specification and the schemas (normatively in XML and SGML; informally in RELAX NG and W3C XML Schema).

I also updated the EBNF, HTML Forms, MathML, and SVG modules to be extensions of DocBook V4.3. Those are all “beta” modules until such time as the TC approves them.

Finally, while I was at it, I fixed a bug in Simplified DocBook. The V1.1b2 release ostensibly allowed anchor elements, but in practice it didn’t allow them in the right places.

I’m hoping that the TC’s next DocBook release will be V5.0b1 sometime this year. Prognostication is not my strong suit (are there any engineers that are good at it?), but I think it’d be both nice and realistic to have some beta version of 5.0 ready in time for XML 2004.

Thank you Norm! Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

It would be very nice to showcase 5.0 in time for XML 2004. Good exposure to be sure.
